How To Play Poker
There are two to seven players in traditional poker. The dealer deals the players two cards beginning with the person on his left—this will be the first player to start each round. The players have two choices: Bet or Check – do absolutely nothing.
If any of the players choose to place a stake, then the others have the option to:
Call (Equal the amount of the wager)
Fold (Drop from the game)
Raise (Make a bigger bet than the bet made in the current round. Then all the other players have to equal the raise, or they can raise again if they want to stay in the game).
The round continues until everyone has called or all bets are in the pot in the middle of the table.
At the end of the first round of betting, the dealer doles out three more cards that are faced-up on the table. These three cards are called community cards, and anyone can take it. This is called the flop. Those still at the table gave the opportunity to bet, raise, or fold.
After every player has their turn, the dealer places a fourth card on the table that anybody can use. This is called the turn.
Once everyone gets the chance to bet / check / raise / fold. The dealer places a fifth card on the board that anyone can take. This is called the river. For the final time everyone gets a chance to bet / check / raise / fold.
If more than one player is still left in the hand after the final betting hand the cards are exposed and the player with the highest ranked hand wins the pot.
